UN's plan of action against human trafficking
Today is an important day for those who work to end human trafficking around the world. The SG's announcement of the Global Plan of Action is an important step that shows the commitment of Member States to end human trafficking and recognizes the role of the UN organizations working against trafficking.
Every day we hear horrific news about men, women and children who are being trafficked around the world. It is estimated that 2.4 million people are currently victims of human trafficking. No single human being deserves to be a victim.
I am pleased that today we can also celebrate the good news about the growing commitment of the international community to end modern day slavery and the beginning of a UN voluntary trust fund for victims of trafficking, especially women and children.
