Steve Chalke's run to end human trafficking
Steve Chalke is running in this Sunday's Virgin London Marathon with the single aim of breaking the Guinness World Record for the most money ever raised in a marathon event. Chalke is the founder of Stop the Traffik and UN.GIFT's Special Adviser for Community Action Against Human Trafficking.
Chalke is planning to raise funds to break the world record set in 2007 of 1.85 GPB. But when he crosses the line, if the money he collected exceeds that amount, he will also have raised an unrivalled percentage of the projected figure for charity in this year's race - single handed! A staggering achievement by anyone's standards!
Steve said, "I cannot believe the amazing generosity of the individuals who have backed me. Every single penny will go to support the communities globally where Stop The Traffik works to prevent the sale of people, protect the trafficked and prosecute the traffickers and Oasis brings education, health care, youth work, children's centres, resources for mums and dads, housing, training and employment opportunities. Every single penny will make a difference"
