The UN.GIFT.HUB launches virtual forum with the UN Special Rapporteur on human trafficking
UN.GIFT in coordination with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) supported an online discussion launched at the initiative of the Office of the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Ms. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo.
The topic of this first e-discussion was the right to an effective remedy for trafficked persons. The online forum took place from 2 to 21 February 2011 to solicit views and comments on the "draft basic principles on the right to an effective remedy for trafficked persons", which the Special Rapporteur intends to submit to the Human Rights Council in June 2011 as part of her thematic report on this topic.

More than 40 experts gathered on the UN.GIFT.HUB's forum to exchange their views on the "draft basic principles on the right to an effective remedy for trafficked persons" . The participants included specialists from international and civil society organizations and academic institutions around the world. The participants discussed a variety of topics, including remedies for trafficked children, the notion of "restitution" in the context of trafficked persons, and gender-related barriers to access to justice for trafficked women.
A summary note of the discussions will be available at the UN.GIFT.HUB and the views and comments expressed at the HUB's forum will inform the Special Rapporteur's thematic report.
