CNN iReporters send messages of hope to victims of slavery in Mauritania: 'We're with you'
In a new CNN video, iReporters from around the world show their solidarity with victims of slavery in Mauritania.
The iReport messages each begin with the phrase "we are with you" in Hassaniya, the language spoken by a group of women who attend classes at a center for escaped slaves in Nouakchott, the capital.
The west African country was the last nation in the world to abolish slavery, and the UN estimates that 10-20% Mauritania's 3.5 million people remain enslaved today.
