Workshop: Bringing gender to the forefront of efforts to combat human trafficking in Nigeria
UNODC's Country Office Nigeria held a roundtable workshop for local community leaders in February to examine the integral role of gender in human trafficking and the smuggling of migrants between Nigeria and Europe.
A wide range of local NGOs and civil society representatives participated in the session. Delegates used case studies to develop concrete action plans for integrating gender issues into their efforts to combat human trafficking and smuggling of migrants. Recommendations from the workshop are currently being drafted and will be shared with participating organizations.
The roundtable was run by the UNODC in collaboration with a European Union funded project on "Promoting Better Management of Migration in Nigeria By Combating and Reducing Irregular Migration".
