Al Jazeera's programme, Slavery: A 21st Century Evil
Al Jazeera's Rageh Omaar is on a quest to uncover the evils of modern day slavery, as he travels across the world exposing the horrors of the 21 st century slave trade. In this eight part series, Slavery: A 21st Century Evil, Omaar travels from the United States to India to reveal the multi-faceted industry of human trafficking.
Episodes in this series include, "Food chain slaves, Sex slaves, Bonded slaves, Child slaves, Charcoal slaves, Bridal slaves, Prison slaves." These episodes outline the complexities of trafficking and traffickers, alike. The series also demonstrates how people have been duped or forced into situations in which they were trafficked.
The last episode, airing November 14, will be a televised debate in which questions will be posed to a panel of those who direct or seek to influence government policies on slavery across the world. The panelists include Luis C. d'Baca from the US State Department Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons; Kevin Bales, the president of Free the Slaves; David Batstone, the president of Not for Sale; and Joy Ezeilo, the UN Special Rapporteur on Trafficking in Persons.
