India: My life in the 'red lights'of Sonagachi
29 March 2010 - Over 150,000 people are trafficked within South Asia every year for sex work, labour, forced marriages and organ trade.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in the region provides technical and financial assistance through various projects for prevention of human trafficking, prosecution of the crime and protection of victims.
This work is full of touching stories, like the story of Munni, a sixteen year old commercial sex worker from Bangladesh. Munni shared with UNODC South Asia the story of how she got trafficked and how she ended up in the brothels of Sonagachi, in Kolkata, India
