Initiatives

UN.GIFT provides the opportunity to strengthen or start initiatives to prevent human trafficking, protect the victims and prosecute the traffickers.

The Women Leaders' Council, launched at the Vienna Forum, draws together the views of Council members on the appropriate mix of strategies to counter this crime. Leaders from around the world share ideas, strategies and commitments to support programs geared towards empowering women.

Parliamentarians also have a role to play in the fight against human trafficking. As agenda-setters and voices of the people, they can have significant power and influence in developing anti-human trafficking laws and policies.

Without more information on the situation at the national, regional and international levels, it would be difficult to find the appropriate ways to tackle the problem. Therefore, collecting data and closing the information gap through research is crucial.
