ECPAT Austria - End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes.

ECPAT Austria logoAustria has long been a strong partner of the United Nations in combating human trafficking.  This month, UN.GIFT presents ECPAT Austria as its new partner of the month.

ECPAT Austria was established in Austria in 2003 and is a coalition of eleven NGOs working on development and child rights issues. ECPAT's activities in Austria and around the world include awareness raising and training; research on sexual exploitation of children in prostitution, pornography and through trafficking of human beings as well as supporting and protecting trafficked children whilst working with governments and decision makers, advocating changes to offer children great protection from trafficking. The ECPAT-network in Austria also lobbies for the implementation of the Code of Conduct among Austrian tour operators and raises awareness on child sex tourism through workshops and seminars as well as collaboration with tour operators in Austria. Furthermore it also lobbies for more prevention and protection in the field of sexual exploitation of children in the internet and through new media technology, i.e. through implementing access-blocking as one means to stem the increasing demand and the revenues criminal business making out of selling these illegal pornographic images of children.

Also, this month, ECPAT and The Body Shop have joined forces for a 3 year global partnership to raise awareness and raise funds to combat child trafficking for sexual exploitation. The Body Shop has produced a fabulous hand cream called 'Soft Hands - Kind Heart' that is on sale at all stores and on-line, the net-profit will go to ECPAT Austria and ECPAT International for implementing activities, ranging from public awareness-raising campaigns and training to direct support for victims in origin and destination countries.
