Human Trafficking as a human right dilemma for multi-national corporations
5 August 2009 - The Human Rights Solutions Forum, launched by the UN Global Compact and Maplecroft, has identified
human trafficking as a human rights dilemma for multi-national corporations. The project team worked on the identification of an initial set of 30-plus human rights themes and dilemmas for business and how each theme affects different sectors, geographies, industries or sections of the "value chain".
The forum aims to enhance the collective understanding of human rights themes and identify practical solutions to real-world dilemmas that challenge responsible business. The forum engages and invites feedback on solutions from different stakeholders including business, international organizations, civil society, academics, local communities and more.
Stakeholders can also provide feedback on a further set of key human rights dilemmas and company case studies that will be progressively added to the forum throughout 2009 and 2010. These include:
- Insights on the risks to business and stakeholder viewpoints
- A discussion of human rights that are impacted
- Links to relevant themes
- Further learning resources
- Ongoing dialogue on lessons-learned, potential solutions and best practice.
