Sweden Calls for Stronger and Urgent Global Action to Combat and Eliminate the Modern Slavery of Human Trafficking

Swedish Institute13 October 2009 - Sweden, currently holding the EU Presidency, is calling for a strengthening of international cooperation and coordinated action to combat the increasing global problem of prostitution and human trafficking for sexual purposes. Sweden is calling upon other EU countries and the international community to adopt even more effective measures to combat this serious violation of human rights, and of individual's human dignity, this barrier to social equality and gender equality.

In view of the up coming EU Day Against Human Trafficking, dialogue on the issues is being shared via a newly published video where four of Sweden's experts, representing law enforcement, the judiciary and local government provide comment on the key issues and discusses some of the urgent measures that still need to be taken nationally and internationally to combat trafficking and prostitution for sexual exploitation and profit.
