Turkey - A new campaign and a telephone helpline to fight human trafficking
19 August 2009 - Turkey has launched a new campaign called "Join Turkey's fight against human trafficking". The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about human trafficking at national and international levels. The campaign is carried out in partnership with the International Organization for Migration and the EU Commission, under an EU project aimed at supporting Turkey's efforts to combat trafficking in human beings and promote access to justice for all trafficked persons.
The campaign also helps highlight the issue of human trafficking by featuring two short films on Turkish, Russian and Moldovan TV channels. The short clips promote the use of a toll free nationwide "157 Telephone Helpline" established to help identify and rescue growing number of victims of human trafficking.
The success of the helpline has already made its proof as more than 160 victims were rescued through calls received by the end of 2008.
Finally, Radio spots, awareness raising posters, ads and info cards have also been prepared for distribution in various regions in Turkey, Russian Federation and Moldova.
