UN.GIFT presents results and strategy to Member States
19 May 2010.- The United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking (UN.GIFT) will present its strategy and results to Member States during the nineteenth session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. The Crime Commission is being held in Vienna from 17 to 21 May 2010.
The UN.GIFT side event will take place on 20 May 2010 and it will be chaired by representatives of organizations part of UN.GIFT's Steering Committee: Doris Buddenberg from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Andreas Halbach from the International Organization for Migration and Vera Gracheva from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
The presentation will focus on the core work areas of UN.GIFT: a) global and collective advocacy efforts to raise awareness of human trafficking; b) evidence-based knowledge on human trafficking to feed into national, regional and global policy-making; c) greater coordination and cooperation among international organizations and innovative public-private partnerships; and d) system-wide, institutional and individual capacity development of stakeholders through the delivery of technical assistance.
Member States will be briefed on and discuss the results of various UN.GIFT's initiatives and the latest development on UN.GIFT activities still underway, such as the Smalls Grants Facility and the Business Leaders Award.
